tetrahedron with 56 giant seed bombs
Flora Balistica

Flora Balistica (2024) is an ephemeral sculpture of giant seed bombs in the shape of a tetrahedron. The seed bombs refer to the history of Castellum Hoge Woerd as a defensive fortress on the border of the Roman Empire. The stone balls were piled up in this shape next to the balista (a kind of catapult). However, the effect of the seed bombs has the opposite purpose: they are not destructive and they eventually show an explosion of life and diversity.

The work was developed for Pollinations, an exhibition in relation to artist Zeger Reyers' Bee Embassy pavilion, which calls attention to the role of pollinators and their endangered habitat.

In assignment of Reaktor21.
The project was generously supported by Stichting Stokroos.
